A Reputable Home Care Agency: Being Involved in Community Events
Over the next couple of months, Alegre Home Care will be pleased to host exhibits at two major industry conferences – the Art of Aging Gracefully Resource Fair (Tuesday April 10, 9:30 am – 3:00 pm) and the 20th Annual Updates on Dementia Conference (Thursday May 10, 8:00 am – 4:15 pm).
Alegre Home Care understands that home caregiving is more than just another job. To be welcomed into someone’s home and granted the highest possible trust is an undertaking that demands compassion, strength, patience, empathy, communication, and above all responsibility. Alegre Home Care is very proud to have earned the confidence of our clients, and we are proud to have established a reputation as a dependable, trustworthy, and professional home care service provider.
It is of particular importance to work with a reputable agency. An agency with unwavering standards for excellence in their caregivers will consistently provide a higher standard of service. Further, by constantly retraining their caregivers and treating them with respect and appreciation, a home caregiving agency can substantially increase their retention rate, so that clients can forge a longer-term relationship with their caregivers.
Working with a reputable home caregiving agency gives our clients the benefits of that personal relationship, the best possible training in our industry, and the confidence and peace of mind that our reputation can attest to.
Another way we establish and maintain that high reputation is by participating in industry events and conferences, especially when they afford us the chance to have a positive impact on our community. Alegre Home Care is proud to be exhibiting at two important industry events this season.
The Art of Aging Gracefully Resource Fair
Tuesday, April 10, 2018 – FREE
9:30 am – 3:00 pm
The Art of Aging Gracefully Resource Fair is a community initiative to help connect people with organizations and local experts in healthy living. The event is meant to encourage people to stay vital and fit, and to make responsible choices about their lifestyles to promote wellness in all stages of life.
Presentations range from practical medical advice to workshops for mental health especially in later life, yoga, and tips for being a ‘successful solo-ager’, as well as a resource fair hosted by a variety of local businesses and nonprofit organizations.
Specific community workshops include:
· Brain Boot Camp (with Christian Thompson, PhD.)
Focusing on brain health, this informative session will teach practical tips for brain training, and lifestyle and dietary choices for promoting brain health throughout one’s life.
· How to Be a Successful Solo-Ager (With Betty Burr)
Aimed at those over 50, living alone without a spouse or children close by, who will deal with a particular set of challenges not faced by other, older adults. Some estimates place those in this position as high as 20% of baby boomers – more than double the previous generation’s figures.
· Gentle Yoga (with Robin Hall, JCCSF Fitness Instructor)
For physical and mental health, this light yoga focuses primarily on the openly meditative aspects of the practice. All levels welcome.
The 20th Annual Updates on Dementia Conference
Thursday, May 10, 2018
8:00 am – 4:15 pm
This is the largest educational conference focusing exclusively on dementia on the West Coast. The conference is aimed at professionals in the field. Nationally- and internationally-renowned researchers and clinicians will be presenting their research or experience in dementia and aging from a variety of perspectives: social, biological, psychological, and cultural. This conference emphasizes the practical applications of that research for treatment or for better coping with the symptoms of (especially age-related) dementia.
Encouraged to join the conversation are professionals in a variety of related subfields, like social work, senior services, nurses, administrators, assisted living caregivers, and advocates, as well as medical or psychological practitioners.
Specific talks include:
· Advance Directives for Dementia: Meeting a Unique Challenge
Dr. Barak Gaster will highlight the shortcomings of the current standard for advance directives for cognitive impairment, and will provide several solutions that are particular to dementia cases.
· Mental Health Issues and Cognitive Impairment (panel)
Topics for discussion will include treatments for late-life anxiety in the presence of cognitive dysfunction, the intersection between dementia and depression and the possible link to antidepressants in the development of dementia, and the challenges of managing symptoms and stress in cases of diagnoses of dementia and other mental health disorders.
· The Alzheimer’s Association Evidence-Based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations
Intended to better define quality care for professional care providers who work with those living with dementia and their families, especially in community care or home-care settings.
Join Us at These Events!
We hope you’ll join us at either or both of these events. These are excellent opportunities for anyone either with an interest in the kinds of home caregiving services Alegre Home Care provides, or for anyone with a loved one who may be aging gracefully into a stage of life where dementia or assisted living may become a consideration.
Alegre Home Care is extremely proud to be participating in both of these events, and contributing to the San Francisco community.
