Veteran Care

Helping veterans remain safe, supported, and at home.

At Alegre, we consider it a privilege to support veterans and their families with excellent care, clear communication, and close coordination with the VA. We provide Homemaker and Home Health Aide services, respite care, and additional private-pay options to help veterans receive the care they need.

Alegre Home Care is contracted with the VA to provide compassionate, personalized assistance with activities of daily living, helping veterans remain safely at home as an alternative to nursing home care. We also provide in-home respite care for veterans and their family caregivers.

VA home care programs help veterans remain safely at home instead of moving to a nursing facility. Veteran care services may include in-home aides, caregiver support, respite care, and financial assistance. Veterans and family caregivers may qualify for more than one program at the same time, allowing for greater support and flexibility.

Local VA social workers and Caregiver Support Program teams can help assess needs, determine eligibility, and coordinate services. Together, these programs help veterans receive the care they need while supporting family caregivers and promoting independence at home.

Alegre is contracted with the VA to support veterans who need help with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, and meal preparation, through both the Homemaker and Home Health Aide Program and the Respite Care Program. We also assist veterans and their survivors who receive VA aid and attendance or housebound benefits.

If you are already enrolled with the VA, ask your social worker to send the authorization to Alegre Home Care. Our Care Manager will contact you to gather the information needed and schedule a time to begin care. Once services start, our administrative team is available by phone 24 hours a day.

How do I enroll to receive VA-paid home care?

To receive Homemaker and Home Health Aide or respite services paid directly by the VA, Veterans must first be seen by a VA primary care provider. To get started, call the VA Health Eligibility line at (877) 222-8387 or the local VA at (415) 750-2234.

At your appointment, your primary care provider and a social worker will assess your needs, determine eligibility, and confirm the amount of care authorized. If care is approved, ask the social worker to send the authorization to Alegre Home Care. Our Care Manager will contact you to gather additional information and schedule a time to begin care.

You can also call us, and we will be happy to help connect you with someone at the local VA.

  • Words cannot express my gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Alegre Home Care. My Aunt was reluctant and refusing care. Alegre assembled the best team of caregivers to see her through to the end of her life and allowed her to remain at home.
